Classes:
2 or 4 day Beginner (Caterpillar) class
Beginners are generally three year olds who are turning four and are potty trained. This is often the first educational experience for kids away from their parents or caregivers. Ms Emily is the Caterpillar class teacher and helps families navigate this transition with warmth and ease. We intentionally keep our class size small so that the kids can receive some individualized attention.
4 day Pre-K (Butterfly) Class
Pre-K students are generally one year away from going to Kindergarten. They are usually four year olds who will be turning five during the academic school year. Ms Fernanda is the Butterfly class teacher and helps the students expand their kindergarten readiness skills in a loving, supportive environment. She expands on the social emotional skills and really starts to grow their academic ones. We strive to create life long learners!
Enrichment Programs:
Music
Music has been found to help children learn important language, listening, and social skills. Learning how to find rhythm in music is helps kids when they are first learning to read and is an important connection. We use songs, rhymes, stories, instruments, and activities everyday to enrich our students’ learning.
Cooking & Nutrition
We get kids in the kitchen. Our students learn about healthy eating habits and how to choose healthy foods. Kids are introduced to new recipes during each session and learn that helping to prepare snacks can be fun! Cooking is also an excellent way to practice fine motor skills.
Art
Students get a chance to explore art in new and different mediums, with the focus on the process of the art not the product. Ms Day LOVES art projects and even teaching the kids about some famous artists work. Creative minds are curious minds, and we hope to help kids learn to love the art process!
Science
Children learn through play, experimentation and hands on activities. All of these age appropriate “science experiments” help kids experience some basic concepts. Melting, dissolving, baking soda and vinegar reactions are just a few ideas we tackle.
Chapel
At the end of the week we have chapel time with Pastor Ted. Stories focus on being kind, a good friend, and showing love to those around us. You do not have to be a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church to attend chapel or our preschool. Both are welcoming to all and everyone, and focus on those attributes that make good humans!
This year we are bringing back some of our extended day options!
Singing Sarah with Sunflower Music is going to offer a music class on Wednesdays for our students. This optional class is right after school, extending the school day until 12. We are also bringing back lunch buddies where children can bring a sack lunch to school and enjoy eating lunch at school with their friends. It’s a great opportunity to practice this skill before heading to elementary school.
